It’s Thursday again and I still have chemical peels on the brain. So here is a list of what an at-home chemical won’t do for you (even chemical peels from a dermatologist or esthetician won’t do this):
- Eliminate deep scarring (it can work wonders on superficial scars)
- Change the size of your pores
I definitely recommend at-home or professional chemical peels, but don’t expect miracles. This is a superficial treatment that will get you mild results and with persistance relatively good results.
If you have sensitive skin or have never had a chemical peel before, I’d recommend seeing an esthetician to get your first. You want to do it right and you don’t want to hurt your skin.

Imagine yourself soaking in a tub with lavender scented candles surrounding you, light jazz on the radio, and moisturizing bubbles. But instead of cucumbers over your eyes, imagine tea bags or a frozen eye gel mask.
That’s right tea leaves and cold temperatures offer soothing and anti-inflammatory benefits.
Cucumbers do have anti-inflammatory properties, but often times those properties aren’t enough to really solve that dreaded puffiness. Before spending hours in the tub, though, consider the cause behind your puffy eyes.
Sometimes the solution is in a pill not in topical treatments.
Do you have allergies?
Did you drink a lot of something right before bed?
Are you on your period?
Have you eaten a lot of salty foods?
If you answer yes to any of these questions, then there may be a better solution for you. For example, an antihistamine will help with your allergies and Midol will serve as a great diuretic if you are menstruating.
Another great method for treating puffy eyes is to give them some attention throughout the day, not just in the morning or evening. A very cold splash of water will get the veins around around your eyes to constrict and move blood away from the area. Also, try gently tapping your closed eye lids with your finger tips to get the fluid to move away from your eyes.
Puffiness normally decreases as the day goes on, but if the puffiness seems to be getting worse, consider speaking with your doctor. There may be an underlying illness or a more advanced treatment available.
