Eczema and Energy Saving Light Bulbs

January 6th, 2008

The media in Britain lately has had much to say about the British Government’s mandatory demand that everyone convert from incandescent light bulbs to compact fluorescent lights also called energy saving light bulbs. Although in theory this sounds great, these new bulbs are made with mercury, which can be toxic if handled incorrectly, and the light itself has been known to worsen those with skin conditions such as eczema and psoriasis.

Although the pear shaped bulbs many of us currently use will be completely phased out in Britain by 2011, some experts are recommending that these bulbs should remain available for use in the home. The reason for this is that many people with light sensitive conditions, including migraines, may be forced to live without lighting or have to limit their exposure to artificial light.

For more information visit Spectrum, the alliance for light sensitivity. And of course if you are looking for skin car products designed for those with eczema and psoriasis, visit the Skin Store.
