How tomatoes help improve your skin
October 22nd, 2008
Red and pink fruits and vegetables like tomatoes and grapefruits contain high levels of lycopene, a powerful antioxidant and natural sun block.

Antioxidants are beneficial in fighting off free radicals, which are notorious elements from the environment that attack the collagen in our skin and make us look older with wrinkles and discoloration. Studies have proven that lycopene is a stronger antioxidant than beta carotene and may have a strong role in preventing certain types of cancer.
The UV protection benefits of lycopene are only about 3, where dermatologists recommend a block of at least 15. Although you shouldn’t depend on lycopene entirely for sun block, you can eat it and use lycopene products for a little bit of an added bonus.
In addition to sun block and anti-aging, lycopene also improves skin texture. There are many popular skin care products that contain lycopene including MD Skincare Hydra-Pure Intense Moisture Cream, which received an award for breakthrough product of the year by WWD Beauty.
