Skin Care and Your New Year Resolution

January 1st, 2008

What many people don’t realize is that some New Year resolutions will also benefit skin fitness. You may be looking to lose weight to feel better or quit smoking to avoid cancer, but keep in mind that your skin’s appearance will improve too. So when your motivation is waning, check out these facts and remind yourself how great it is to have fit skin.

Resolution: Quit Smoking
Smoking accelerates the aging process by depleting skin healthy nutrients, weakening collagen, and narrowing blood vessels throughout your body.

Resolution: Eat Right
It’s no secret that foods high in fat are bad for our bodies so it should be common sense that it’s not that great for our skin either. A diet rich in vitamin a and zinc are beneficial for your skin. So choose salmon instead of steak and nuts instead of chips to lose that weight and to keep a glowing complexion.

Resolution: Exercise More
Exercise is an easy step in maintaining healthy skin. With exercise you improve your blood flow, making sure nutrients reach all areas of your body and keeping your complexion rosy. Exercise also maintains your skin’s elasticity, which could prevent stretch marks.

Resolution: Reduce Stress
When we are stressed out our adrenal glands excrete hormones, which are the number one cause of acne. Additionally, worry lines form on the forehead, eyes, and cheeks because of facial expressions. Keep yourself in check by laughing and smiling daily (believe it or not this will offset some of those hormones), eating right, sleeping plenty, and exercising.
