Skin Fitness for a Wedding Day Complexion that Glows

January 7th, 2008

Most wedding checklists, wedding planners, and wedding reminders don’t mention your physical well-being, especially your skin fitness. Depending on your needs you may not need more than an extra layer of rouge, but for the rest of us everything from a spray tan to waxing could be beneficial.

This is your wedding day skin fitness checklist.

Starting today: Avoid direct sunlight
Protecting your skin from the sun is always important. Start with sunblock like
DDF Organic Sunblock SPF 30 4 oz.

Aside from the obvious skin cancer and wrinkles, too much sun can give you a weathered (literally) look that is hard to disguise with make-up. Too much sun could give you a sunburn, freckles, and an unwanted shine in your photos.

Four months out: Facial
Under no circumstances should you just have one facial a few days before the wedding. If you do, could have a break out. Instead, schedule one facial a month for several months before your big day. The last of which will be a little over a week before your big day. This guarantees no unanticipated break outs as well as healthy, hydrated, glowing skin.

Waxing: Try it six weeks out
Don’t try an eyebrow wax for the first time a few days before the big day. You might not like the shape or you could have a reaction, like you might with a facial. Instead try it six weeks before and then again a few days before.

Make-up: Trial four weeks out
To be sure the colors and style of your make-up works for you, choose a salon that will do a trial run one month before. Then you can photograph yourself and be sure you are happy with the application.

The spray tan: Three weeks out
If you choose to tan, don’t use the real thing (see avoiding direct sunlight above) try spray tanning. Not everyone looks right with a spray tan so try it out at least three weeks out so you can photograph yourself. If you don’t like it, then chances are the color will fade in time and if you do like it you still have plenty of time to reapply. Within the first 48 hours the color will come off on your clothes so be sure to schedule your session four or five days before your rehearsal dinner.

Your products: Nothing new two weeks out
New products can cause your skin to react poorly so stick with the tried and true cosmetics and products. Now is not the time to try something new. If you do want to experiment, visit the Skin Store several months in advance.

Get plenty of sleep: One week out
Get at least seven to eight hours of sleep every night. Although it’s obvious, this is a critical step in your wedding day skin fitness. The bags under your eyes and the lack of color on your cheeks will make your fatigue obvious.
