Stop Hiding from Psoriasis
September 9th, 2008
It was recently announced that the American Academy of Dermatology and the National Psoriasis Foundation is partnering to lead a psoriasis awareness campaign called “Stop Hiding from Psoriasis.” Country singer LeAnn Rimes is working on the campaign to bring awareness to the skin condition and to help the over seven million Americans who deal with the disease.
Le Ann Rimes has psoriasis and is willing to talk about her experiences to help others. “I have gone to great lengths to hide my condition, especially as a performer. Over the years, I’ve had to deal with the emotional and physical toll psoriasis has had on my self-esteem and confidence, but today I no longer let psoriasis define who I am or how I feel about myself,” she said.
The goal of the campaign is to educate those with psoriasis so that they feel more comfortable with themselves and also to educate those that don’t have it so that everyone can feel better about the skin condition, which is not contagious or deadly.
