Treat Acne with Milk of Magnesium
January 25th, 2008
It is often thought that you need to pay all kinds of money for fancy acne treatment products. Although for some it’s true, there are others that can try using an at home, inexpensive remedy. To start, just open your medicine cabinet.
Milk of Magnesium (MOM) is essentially magnesium hydroxide. This alkaline substance can be applied to the face in various ways to reduce oil production, shrink pores, and relieve irritation from existing blemishes. Try applying MOM on a small part of your skin first, like on the fleshy part of your hand for instance, to be sure you don’t have a reaction (though, that is unlikely). Once you know your skin is not sensitive to MOM, try applying it in one or all of the following ways to see what works best for you.
- Watering down MOM and applying to oily areas of skin before make-up
- Spot treatment with a Q-Tip
- One or two times a week, apply a thin layer and allow it to dry before you rinse off with water
- Overnight mask one or two nights a week (a think layer will do)
