Sculpt your chin with products

February 26th, 2009 by Sara

Not too long ago I was looking through pictures of myself and I couldn’t believe what I saw. Since when did I have such a huge double chin!

Apparently the gobble gobble neck that I’ve developed is only obvious in my profile, so here I’ve been going about my days totally oblivious.

I suppose it could be argued that my double chin isn’t really that bad, but I noticed it and I’m ready to do something about it. After some research I read that creams containing Ovaliss will burn and prevent fat and is recommended for taming a double chin.

I’ll be honest, I’m not sure I believe that a cream will burn fat. However, I do believe in botanicals, which is why I’m all over Pevonia Esthebuste Restore Neck and Bust Cream.

I’ll keep you posted…

Alternatives to hydroquinone – arbutin

February 9th, 2009 by Sara

Many of us melasma sufferers are scared of hydroquinone – and for good reason.

Hydroquinone is a harsh chemical that works well in reducing the appearance of melasma, but at what cost? Yes, I want to reduce my melasma, but I also want to be kind to my body.

And this is why I’d like to recommend arbutin as a skin fit alternative to hydroquinone. (This recommendation will be one in a series of recommended skin lighteners, so stay tuned for more skin fit suggestions.)

Although arbutin does not stop melanin dead in its tracks, it does work to lighten dark spots including melasma and other hyperpigmentation. Very few skin lightening products offer 100% melasma removal, at least not in my experience, so any gentle and effective skin lightening product like arbutin is worth a try.

Here are the skin facts on arbutin:

  • It is a skin lightener that slows down melanin production
  • Arbutin is derived from a variety of berries (including cranberries, mulberries, and blueberry shrubs) and pears
  • There are few side effects. In fact, arbutin can help reduce skin redness and irritation too.

Are you looking to improve your melasma with skin lightening products and skin fitness? Try incorporating healthy berries into your diet and try a skin care product like Dr Michelle Copeland’s Pigment Formula, which contains arbutin and other skin lightening ingredients.

A dragonfruit a day keeps the wrinkles at bay

January 29th, 2009 by Sara

It seems that every time I go online to browse the specials at SkinStore.com I come across a skin care product that boasts its use of exotic fruits and vegetables.

Certainly ingredients like grapefruit seed extract and cucumber are better than methylparaben and C9-15 Fluoroalcohol Phosphate.

One of the latest raves is an extract from the dragon fruit. Israeli Biotechnology Research (IBR) says that the dragron fruit has natural UV protection properties and has the effect of making the skin feel tighter and stronger. More importantly, the dragon fruit helps to slow down cell proliferation allowing for the skin to look younger (fewer wrinkles and fine lines) too.

The dragonfruit is commonly eaten in Asia and is recognizable by its pink color on the outside, the white melon on the inside, and the black seeds that make the fruit polka-dotted.

I have yet to try a product containing dragon fruit extract, but I’d love to hear from anyone who has used the dragon fruit in their skin fitness regimen.
