Thursday skin facts – Sex makes you pretty

February 5th, 2009 by Sara

Sure you burn calories and release endorphins with sex, but did you also know that you improve your skin’s fitness with sex?

Oxytocin, which is released during orgasm, is a hormone and a neurotransmitter within the brain. Oxytocin has many great benefits:

  • Promotes sleep
  • Relaxes you and decreases anxiety, stress
  • Encourages feelings of trust and love

Now it might be a stretch, but let’s think about this in terms of skin fitness. With enough sleep and low stress don’t you think your skin would look better?

Skin tip – The more nooky you have, the more rested and relaxed you will look. How’s that for taking a few years off your skin.

Thursday skin facts – Winter’s wrath on dry skin

December 18th, 2008 by Sara

Dry skin is part genetics, part hydration levels, and definitely a result of the weather-particularly winter weather.

If the chill has got your skin looking ashy and feeling scaly, consider these skin facts.

  • There may be more moisture in your skin than in the air, which is why moisture is evaporating from your skin. Try a humidifier and lowering your thermostat to even out moisture levels in the air at home.
  • Baths, long showers, and hot showers pull all the oil from your skin. Try short, cool showers instead.
  • Your skin can only absorb so much product at one time. Apply a bit of moisturizer throughout the day. I’ve gotten the best results from shea butter.
